Signed into law on July 4, 2025, as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Visa Integrity Fee adds $250 to most nonimmigrant visa applications, including B1\/B2. Implementation is expected before September 30, 2026, though an exact rollout date hasn’t been finalized. It’s charged in addition to the standard $185 MRV application fee, is paid per applicant (dependents included), and is technically refundable if you comply with all visa conditions – though the refund mechanism isn’t operational yet, so don’t count on getting it back easily. Exemptions apply to ESTA\/Visa Waiver Program travelers, Canadian\/Bermudian visa-exempt categories, and diplomatic visas – none of which cover a standard Indian B1\/B2 applicant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F-1, J-1, H-1B, L-1, H-4, L-2, O-1, E-1, and E-2 applicants lost interview-waiver eligibility entirely after September 2, 2025. B1\/B2 is now essentially the last major category where Dropbox survives, which is pushing a larger share of total Indian visa traffic through in-person interviews and, by extension, OFC appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/span>4. Stricter eligibility even within B1\/B2 dropbox<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
A prior 221(g) administrative processing or refusal on any past application now disqualifies you from Dropbox outright, regardless of how recent your last visa was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Net effect:<\/strong> more B1\/B2 applicants are attending OFC appointments in 2026 than in prior years, at a higher cost per applicant. Budget for both fees and check your Dropbox eligibility on the US Visa Portal before assuming you can skip the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
